Heartwood A Serious Whisky is Duckett doing exactly what the label says – stepping squarely into “serious peat” with a cask-strength vatted malt that still drips sherry-soaked Heartwood character.
Built from just two casks – Adams Distillery peated second-fill sherry (AD295) and Launceston Distillery sherry (C-001) – it’s a fully integrated peated blend, aged in ex-sherry oak and bottled at a thumping 60.5% ABV in 500ml, with an outturn of only 290 individually numbered bottles, released in October 2020.
In the glass, expect dense sherry richness – nuts, dried figs, maple sweetness and a touch of rosewater – wrapped around a firm spine of peat and oak: big, oily texture, long warming finish, and that unmistakable Duckett sense of humour hiding behind a very straight-faced title.
Heartwood A Serious Whisky – sherry, smoke and 60.5% of very serious fun.
