Drawn from Heartwood’s first ever cask, HH007, the whisky was split into three heavily charred port barrels, with this “1 of 3” then topped up in 2008 with 100% peated Lark spirit and fine-tuned again in 2015 with Oloroso sherry-matured peated Lark. Bottled in July 2015 at a thunderous 65.6% ABV, this 500ml release marries 16-year Tasmania Distillery malt with 7- and 5-year Lark, from port, peated and sherry casks – only 190 bottles escaped the warehouse.
In the glass, it’s pure Heartwood theatre: huge, oily texture; waves of dark fruit, scorched sugar and old port pipe; then surging peat and sherry darkness that just won’t quit. It’s not a polite dram – it’s the moment Tim Duckett proved that a problem cask could evolve into a cult Tasmanian monster.
Heartwood 1 of 3 – from “write-off” to riot, bottled at full roar.
